Mr. & Mrs. Bartol | Sunday River Wedding

Ahh, our first wedding of the 2015 season – and it couldn’t have been better. A beautiful day full of genuine smiles all around and just the right amount of happy tears! Melissa and Jake were as laid back as they come which made for a stress free, relaxed and certainty a day to remember. Oh and did I mention those lobster rolls? Ah, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
But anywho.. here is a little snipbit from the bride about how they met and how their love story begun…
“We met when Jake was home in Presque Isle for Thanksgiving Break 2005 from Maine Maritime Academy. His best high school friend, Jason, introduced us. I had worked with Jason during college. When Jake came home for Christmas break that year, we started hanging out & have been together ever since. After he graduated from MMA in 2008, he took a job with Bechtel & that job moved us to Austin, TX, Milwaukee, WI, Huntsville, AL, & Frederick, MD. We moved to Lincoln, ME in 2013 when he accepted a position with HRST, Inc. & bought our first home in 2014. He proposed on New Years Eve 2011. I had the worst cold ever. And pink eye. We had spent the previous week with his family in Charlotte, NC & I was in bed most of that week because I was so sick. We drove home to Huntsville on NYE & he picked up Chinese food for supper. When he got home, he told me that the Chinese lady had given him something that would make me feel a lot better. I told him that all I wanted was my wonton soup. He pleaded with me to just take a look in the bag, so I rolled my eyes & looked over to the bag. He pulled a ring box out of our Chinese take out bag, got down on one knee in our kitchen, & proposed to me with Jameson (our dog) running around. We called our families, ate cold Chinese, & I felt like crap but had a big smile on my face!
We had previously set a date while we were living away but plans didn't work out & we had to postpone our wedding. We finally decided this past Christmas that we needed to get married, so we set a date & gave our Moms a picture of Jameson sitting next to a sign that said "It's time to pawty! My humans are getting married!" It was important to us to have a small wedding & to have as many of our decorations pull double duty as possible. Our wedding ceremony tree is from our property & getting planted in our yard, the mailbox for cards is our new mailbox, the potted flowers are decorating outside of our house, the pictures were repurposed from our rehearsal dinner, & we are setting up our DIY photo booth at upcoming weddings. We aren't religious, so we didn't have a pastor to call, & we didn't want some random Justice of the Peace to marry us so my cousin offered to marry us & I wrote our ceremony.”
All in all – it was a beautiful, romantic & heartfelt day. I can’t wait to share with you Mr. & Mrs. Bartol’s Sunday River Wedding. And a big thank you to all the lovely vendors who helped make this wedding day so beautiful, you can find an entire list at the bottom of the post.
