Life With The Libbys | My Current Fitness Routine

One of my biggest passions in life is health & wellness. I wrote a blog post back in 2019 about my journey with health & fitness, you can check it out here if you're interested but I thought I would do a little update as things have shifted now that I'm in my late 20s and in a season of motherhood.

Ever since I can remember I was active. Growing up involved in athletics and with Dad that was a coach so much of my identity was wrapped into sports. But when I hit college, I feel like I lost that part of myself. Not only the community but the physical and mental benefits of movement. It took a few years, and a few different methods to end up to where I am but I can honestly say that I look forward to "working out" every single day. I no longer see it as punishment but more of a reward - something I get to do. I feel grateful for my body and all that it has and continues to do for me and I want to take care of it the best I can.

It makes me happy to share the routine that I've found that brings me joy, makes me feel strong, and feel good on the inside & out. But I know this looks different for everyone at different stages of life. My best piece of advice is to find a way to move your body that you love & makes you feel good. That's when you'll get consistent, build confidence, and feel good.

For me, a mix of classes and at home videos is the perfect combination. I love to get out of the house and enjoy boutique fitness classes but I know it's not realistic for me to do that every day as a Mom & business owner. So instead, I take classes in Portland 3-4 days a week and work out from home on the other days.

A part of my new morning routine that I implemented in the start of 2023 (you can read about the 5AM Club here) starts with movement every single morning. It's the first thing I do when I wake up. I love this because even if I don't get a chance to get an additional workout in that day I feel good knowing I moved my body before I did anything else.

Currently I'm loving Melissa Wood Health's classes online. She has a great mix of yoga, sculpt, pilates, and barre and even has meditations on her app. I do something different every day. So I usually start my mornings with one of her classes and then stack on another 20-ish minute class later in the day if I don't have another workout scheduled. I really enjoy the slow and targeted movements, especially since pregnancy/postpartum.

I've found MWH to be such a good balance with my other workout - spin classes!

I've been going to Jibe Cycling Studio for 5 years now and I still fall more in love every single class. I think it's my past love of sports & dance just coming together mixed great music and incredible energy. It's such a wonderful community there. We've even had the chance to capture the weddings of three different instructors as well as other members there and create some photo & video content for their branding and marketing. If you haven't tried Jibe - you need to!

In a perfect world, I would mix in some heavier weight lifting but in this season it's just not happening. Eventually I would love to create a gym in our basement so that I could incorporate more heavy lifting and get stronger. I also love to try new classes or get to a yoga or barre class when I can but it's not a part of my weekly routine.

I'd love to know - what does your fitness routine look like? What are you currently loving? Has it shifted over the years?

Share with me.
