Celebrating Motherhood | Mother's Day 2020 Gift Ideas & Photographs

If you've been following along for the past few years, you may remember my annual Celebrating Motherhood blog posts around Mother's Day. It's one of my favorites to write because although most know me as a wedding photographer, capturing motherhood is also one of my favorites. Many of my clients start as brides and end up in front of my camera with a baby bump or newborn in their arms. It's truly such a joy to see how relationships and families grow over the years and it's an absolute honor to have the chance to document it.

Today I'm going to be sharing a few of my favorite motherhood photographs along with some gift ideas for anyone looking for something special for Mom this year - because we all know she deserves it!

GIFT IDEA:

My favorite gift to give is the gift of experiences & memories.

How about rolling that all into one with a photo session for Mom this Mother's Day.

Gift cards are available or you can even reserve a date for later in the summer.

GIFT IDEA:

My other favorite part of gifting is finding the perfect card. I could spend hours browsing greeting cards and my favorite place to shop is Gus & Ruby! Their storefronts are closed but their online shop is stocked and ready to ship! I've already placed my order.

I love to send Mother's Day cards to all the Mommas in my life - not just my own. That includes my Mother-in-Law, Nana, and my close friends that are Moms. I think it's a special way to let them know you're thinking about them.

GIFT IDEA:

I love to include some florals or a plant with my Mother's Day card & gift. Usually I'm last minute running to Whole Foods or Trader Joes but this year I already placed my order with a local florist & vendor friend Watershed Floral. She has both pick up & delivery options. Perfect way to support our local businesses and give Mom another reason to smile.

GIFT IDEA:

Plan a getaway! Right now, travel may be restricted but make plans to get excited about. Consider a staycation at a local hotel like The Yachtsman Hotel & Marina or airbnb. Or maybe plan a big vacation like a trip to Greece I did with my Mom a few years ago - it's one of my favorite memories!

GIFT IDEA:

Make a date night out plan including drinks & reservations at her favorite restaurant. Bonus points if it's local! Buy gift certificates in advance to support small businesses during this time.

Something I love to do with my Mom is bop around from different restaurants & bars and enjoy a little bit of everything. Maybe check out Hunt & Alpine Club, Blyth & Burrows, Empire & so many more in Portland.

GIFT IDEA:

How about handcrafted jewelry? One of my favorites in Maine is Becoming Jewelry. I have quite a few pieces myself & so does my Mom. I gave her the Stand By You necklace for a wedding gift because that's the song we danced to.

GIFT IDEA:

Print your photos! If you're a client of mine, use your online Pixieset gallery to print your photos (need me to re-upload or re-send, no problem - just email me).

If you're looking for more of a photo gift like an book or calendar check out Artifact Uprising.

I hope you found this post helpful & it inspires you to celebrate Mom in a special way this season.

Now more than ever, remember to shop small and support local when you can!
