Vendor Feature: Chevaughn Marie Designs | Maine Floral Designer

One of our favorite parts of our job is that we get to meet & work with so many talented vendors to bring our clients dreams to life! And let's be honest - being self employed can get a little lonely sometimes! Our vendor friends become like co-workers and are always there to share ideas, inspiration, and lean on for support (especially in 2020).

Today we're so excited to be featuring our sweet friend Chevaughn of Chevaughn Marie Designs! Keep scrolling to learn more about her & her wonderful business.

Q: Tell us about you & your business (name, when you started, why you started, the face behind the brand, etc)

My name is Chevaughn Kacer and I own Chevaughn Marie Designs, a boutique design studio specializing in floral design and specialty rentals! Growing up in a small business family, I knew that I always wanted to own a business but wasn't quite sure what that certain business was. Since I was young, I was absolutely obsessed, and I mean, OBSESSED with the movie, The Parent Trap. I would watch that one scene where Lindsay Lohan went to her mom's work where they were doing the bridal photoshoot. I would watch that scene so much that I truly thought I would wear a top hat and veil for my own wedding day. Because of that scene, I always had a special love for weddings (and a killer love story) so I got my first job working at a bridal salon right out of high school. Working there is where my love of weddings truly blossomed. Throughout the years, I was able to network and connect with a wedding planner & floral designer and got to learn under her wing. After I got my business degree and some more design experience, I went full speed with my own floral business.

When I started my business 3 years ago, I wanted to show my clients that designing your wedding florals doesn't have to be stressful. It also doesn't have to costs thousands and thousands of dollars to create a bespoke design, the design just needs to represent you and your partner.

When I first meet my couples, I always tell them that my goal by the end of this wedding is not only to create beautiful florals for you but to create a friendship. Weddings are where you have your closest people around you and the fact that you chose me and my team to be there with you, is the biggest honor and I hope that our bond sticks forever.

Q: Can you describe the type of services you offer?

We offer wedding and event florals (bouquets, ceremony pieces, table arrangements, custom installations, etc) From weddings, bridal showers, to corporate parties, we do it all. Throughout the years, we found that our clients wanted not just flowers, but custom shaped arbors, votives, and table runners, so we started offering specialty rentals to not only enhance the design but to make things easier for our clients. We help with the whole table and event design!

When we aren't in the shop playing with flowers, we also offer design services for businesses. From decorating Christmas window displays to creating custom floral walls for businesses, we love being able to create custom pieces for our clients.

Q: What’s your niche style?

We love creating all different styles for our clients, but there's something about garden-style arrangements that I just adore. The loose, organic feel is just super soft and romantic to me. A forever favorite!

Q: How far in advance should clients be booking their floral designer? Florists used to be one of the last few vendors to book, but we are finding that couples are booking sooner than later. (Especially in the state of the world right now) In a perfect world, I think booking within an 8-10 month basis is always nice. This gives us enough time to plan, have multiple design consults, while not being on a time crunch!

Q: What’s one thing you wish more couples knew when trying to find & book their floral designer? When trying to figure out your floral budget, take into consideration that labor/delivery/set-up and sometimes breakdown will be included. This is super important when it comes to your wedding day and budget. Ask your floral designer what these fees typically range at before getting a quote. Many couples have a budget in mind and I rarely see that they take these expenses into consideration.

Q: What keeps you inspired? My fellow floral designers and quiet time. I am always in awe seeing what my industry can do, it's an amazing community. I also love sitting at my desk at night with a blank notebook and just scribble all my ideas down! I do my best work at night!

Q: What’s a typical day in the life of Chevaughn look like during your busy season? Really depends on the day. Wedding day vs. non-wedding day is totally different. But they both start with super early mornings, tea/coffee, and end with a hot shower and wine. This is why I love this industry, there is never one day or one wedding that is the same. Which for me, is a perfect world!

Q: What’s your dream color palette? All the pastels...... not too bright, but not too neutral.

Q: Tell us about a design you’ve been dreaming of creating? There's not one design specifically, but we have a ton of hanging installations this coming season that I am dying to start! Lots of unique elements going to be happening! :)
